19th Century Coastguard Cottages on the Romney Marsh

The Coastguard Cottages at Jury’s Gap were originally built in 1875 for the Coastguards in East Sussex. Nos 1-4 are now one House, but No. 4 can easily be separated into its own unit via connecting doors (No. 4 retains the most original room layout with Kitchen and Sitting Room to ground floor plus 2 Bedrooms one with shower and WC at first floor level).

All the Cottages still have their separate entrance steps and entrance doors with Porch as originally designed and exterior cast iron boot scraper.

The Cottages stand together with another block of Coastguard Cottages at right angle very isolated on the Romney Marsh with the sea frontage being literally 1 minute’s walk distant. There are far reaching views across the Romney Marsh.

The property is entered via steps and white picket gate leading into the Courtyard. Within the Courtyard are the original brick Outhouses, consisting of 2 Store Rooms per Cottage (i.e. 4 Store Rooms to each side ) of the original communal Wash-House situated to the centre.

The interior of the Cottages retain all its original floorboards (exposed) together with other original period features such as fireplaces, doors, latches, store and wall cupboards, stone steps, etc.

The building plot occupies approx ¼ acre with the surrounding Garden area approximately 1 ½ acres in size. The property is approached through a five bar gate down a drive to the Garage adjacent to the entrance gate into the property. There is ample parking space.

Jury’s Gap is situated on the right hand side approximately 1.5 miles to the east of Camber on the main road to Lydd and is immediately adjacent the MOD Range.
