The Castle is steeped in history, and offers a wide variety of interesting opportunities for film makers and stills photographers.
History
The castle was built by a knight of Edward 1st in 1275, when he received a license to "Crenelate" his Saxon manor house.
The resulting medieval moated castle was approximately rectangular in plan with four angle towers and a keep within the curtain walls.
Rebuilt by the mayor of Stafford in 1615, in the Jacobean fashion of the day, the castle still retains the original parapet walls and turrets, Norman tower, bridge and dungeon.
The castle is set within acres of rolling countryside providing diversity and a beautiful location.
Privately owned, the Castle has undergone recent restoration and modernisation. The grand Medieval and Jacobean architecture has now been combined with modern luxuries such as beautiful bathrooms and sauna.
Internal Opportunities For Filming:
The castle has various different and unique areas worthy of filming including:-
* Jacobean paneling dating from 1615, which is highly engraved with figure carvings.
* Beautiful Edwardian style White Room with crystal chandelier - currently used for weddings.
* Bedrooms with different decor and plush fabrics and historic four poster beds.
* Stunning modern bathrooms, large jacuzzi baths, double showers all in marble, granite, travertine and limestone.
* Basement with exposed castle walls and Gothic arches. Turrets have stone internal walls too - giving that old castle feel.
External Filming Opportunities
* Externally the castle benefits from castle keep courtyard area with decorative borders lawn and pond.
* Large and extensive reflective moat forming a lake at the south west side.
* 35 acres of rolling countryside, bordering farmland.
* Further lake and long driveway.
